World-class critical care training delivered by senior intensivists. Simulation-based, evidence-driven, and built for the realities of modern ICU practice.
The Gold Coast University Hospital ICU Education Program provides high-fidelity training in intensive care medicine for doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals at all career stages.
Our faculty comprises senior intensivists, critical care nurses, and sub-specialty consultants with expertise spanning trauma, cardiothoracic, neurocritical care, and ECMO. All courses are designed to translate directly into improved patient outcomes.
We work closely with Queensland Health and the College of Intensive Care Medicine to ensure our curriculum reflects current guidelines and emerging evidence.
High-fidelity mannequin simulation and immersive clinical scenarios.
Curriculum grounded in current guidelines and landmark critical care trials.
Practical skills translatable to any ICU environment, same day.
Courses designed for doctors, nurses, and allied health working together.
From foundational critical care principles to advanced procedural skills, our program covers the full spectrum of intensive care education. Update this section with your actual course details.
The essential starting point for clinicians entering the ICU environment. OPTIC covers the fundamentals of ICU practice — haemodynamic monitoring, respiratory support, sedation and analgesia, and renal replacement therapy — through a simulation-heavy curriculum. Participants spend the majority of the course in immersive, scenario-based learning, managing common and high-acuity ICU presentations with faculty-facilitated debriefs.
Enquire →A hands-on procedural course focused on advanced airway management and critical care procedures. Participants work through video laryngoscopy, difficult airway algorithms, surgical airway rescue, and high-risk intubation in the critically ill — with structured manikin and task-trainer sessions throughout.
Enquire →GCUH's flagship point-of-care ultrasound course for the intensive care setting. Covers lung, cardiac (FATE/RUSH protocol), abdominal, and vascular ultrasound with an emphasis on clinical decision-making at the bedside. Structured scanning practice on live models and phantoms with one-to-one faculty supervision.
Enquire →A structured revision course for candidates sitting the CICM Fellowship Primary Examination. Delivered by experienced examiners and educators, GOLDPERC targets the core sciences — physiology, pharmacology, and statistics — through intensive tutorials, worked SAQs, and viva practice in a small-group setting.
Enquire →Specialist training in the resuscitation of the post-cardiac surgery patient. CALS covers the unique physiology and life-threatening complications of the early post-operative period — including tamponade, haemorrhage, arrhythmia, and emergency resternotomy — using high-fidelity simulation and structured team-based scenarios.
